First Aid & CPR Uruguay
If you work in childcare in Uruguay — whether at a daycare, preschool, home-based care, or camp — first aid and CPR certification is not optional. It's a licensing requirement, and for good reason: children are among the most vulnerable to choking, allergic reactions, and injuries. Being prepared to respond can mean everything.
What Uruguay requires
In Uruguay, Act 18,360 and Decree 330/009 apply to all institutions, including the private Early Childhood Centres regulated by INAU, and require at least 50% of staff to be trained in first aid and basic CPR. That training must be delivered by an authorized institution and renewed every two years. It is a concrete, verifiable obligation, not merely a recommendation.
Anaphylaxis and medication administration
Uruguay has no childcare-specific framework for anaphylaxis or epinephrine, and adrenaline is dispensed as prescription ampoules, with auto-injectors not routinely available or publicly subsidized. The sound practice is therefore to record each child's allergies, obtain written parental authorization to administer any prescribed medication, and keep it stored safely and within easy reach.
